Opening
will steer museum support
It's good that supporters of the Butler Longhorn Museum are
talking about opening the museum's doors this spring.
Supporters are describing it as a "soft" opening.
Only part of the building will be open. Only some of the
exhibits will be in place. But any kind of opening would be
a good thing.
The museum, which will feature exhibits on a famous line of
cattle and on the early history of League City; has had a
rough history; The city bought the historic property in
2002. Since then, a series of city-council members has
become increasingly exasperated by the costs and delays in
getting the museum open. At times, work stopped.
The museum's board and city staff are trying to control
costs by calling on volunteers. Supporters have said for
years that the museum has a story to tell and that the
exhibits will be worth seeing.
The best way to draw the public support needed to complete
the project is to open the doors and let people in to see
for themselves.
