Word on the Street
One reader praises the work of Jennifer Wycoff van der Wal at League City's Butler Longhorn Museum.
The city council in League City voted 4-2 to seek bids for a design-build contract that would pick up where the other renovations to the Butler Longhorn Museum site left off more than a year ago.
Council made right call on Butler museum
I would like to respond to the citizens of League City concerning the Butler Longhorn Museum.
First of all, I support going forward with completion of the project.
At first, I had reservations about the cost and delays, until I met up with the curator, Jennifer Wycoff-van der Wal.
She walked me through the building and showed off the collection of exhibits.
I was pleasantly surprised with the exhibit collections but was appalled by the work done on the building.
I am a licensed Texas electrician and have worked in the construction trade for more than 30 years. The workmanship and the hodge-podge work were totally unacceptable.
The present conditions are not the fault of the museum or the curator.
As an example, when a work order to put in a door was issued, Wycoff-van der Wal had to accept whatever work was done because of the city's procurement process.
Never mind that the door didn't meet disability requirements.
Wycoff-van der Wal is not a general contractor but a very good curator.
